Laura H. Harper joined the Maine Women's Lobby and the Maine Women's Policy Center as Director of Public Policy in November 2006. She directs the legislative agenda for the Maine Women's Lobby in partnership with the Legislative Committee. Among policies she's lobbied for in Augusta are paid sick days, protection from discrimination for family caregivers, marriage equality, comprehensive chemical policy reform, expansions to family medical leave, and increases to the minimum wage.

Laura comes to the Maine Women's Lobby from the Senate Majority Office, where she served as a legislative aide under the leadership of Senator Michael Brennan. Laura's campaign experience is extensive, including managing a successful state senate campaign in 2004. She served on Maine Won't Discriminate's steering committee and also worked as a field organizer in 2005. Previously, Laura served as Grassroots Organizer for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and during her tenure, organized the Maine contingent of the 1.3 million person March for Women's Lives in 2004.

Laura is an active member in her Hallowell neighborhood group, NoHa, and can be seen every year in the Old Hallowell Day Parade. She is the most recent recipient of the Timson Community Service Award. She has served her community as a school board director and member of Hallowell's recycling committee. Laura is a 2002 graduate of Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Women's Studies.
